Nature of the Assignment B task: understand the requirement

  1. Specification focus. A piece of imaginative writing based on a selected topic. • Students must respond to a teacher-devised non-examined assignment which will allow them to address the following assessment objectives:

  2. Work authentically. Keep research and drafts traceable, acknowledge sources and ensure the submitted wording and decisions are your own.
  3. Develop independently. Use teacher feedback to identify a general improvement, then decide how to apply it. Feedback must not become a rewritten response.
  4. Check compliance. Confirm the word guidance, chosen anthology texts, task wording and submission requirements with your centre.

  1. Worked application. A useful drafting record shows the original plan, research notes, a first version and the reasons for later changes. This demonstrates independent development and helps prevent accidental plagiarism.
  2. Improve through diagnosis. Name the precise weakness, such as unsupported inference, thin analysis, weak organisation or inaccurate expression, then revise that feature and compare the result.

Self review

Assignment B is a piece of imaginative writing based on a selected topic. It is a teacher-devised, non-examined assignment, so your response must show purposeful decisions rather than simply repeat information about the topic.

Treat the wording of the requirement as a checklist for your decisions. Check what you must create, what text or topic you must use, what support is permitted and what the final outcome must be.

Success means making deliberate choices and supporting them with relevant evidence or crafted detail. It also means explaining how those choices meet the task.
