Question 223

A community organisation is launching a lending scheme through which residents can borrow useful household and hobby equipment. It is recruiting young volunteers to help during the opening week.

Volunteers may welcome visitors, check booking details, organise labelled shelves and collect feedback. Training and adult supervision will be provided. Adults, not student volunteers, will decide whether an item is safe to lend.

The organisation has received these comments from potential volunteers:

Potential volunteerComment
A"I do not know enough about the equipment to answer questions."
B"I can only help for one afternoon, not the whole week."
C"I am quiet, so I would be uncomfortable welcoming visitors."
D"I would worry that I would be blamed if something was returned damaged."

Write the text for a leaflet explaining the volunteer opportunities, responding to these concerns and encouraging young people to take part.

Your work will be assessed on communication and adaptation to audience and purpose (27 marks), and organisation and technical accuracy (18 marks).
