Question 31

A community trust has £12,000 to spend on one improvement to a shared public space. A panel of local residents will compare three shortlisted proposals and decide which one should receive the funding. Places on the panel will be selected to include residents of different ages and from different parts of the area. The final decision and the reasons for it will be published.

Some residents believe that the decision has already been made or that only people with specialist knowledge will be heard.

Panel members must attend both meetings, which will take place from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm on 20 and 27 March in the Community Library meeting room. Residents can obtain an application form from the library reception desk or from www.communitytrust.org/panel. Completed forms must be submitted through the website or returned to the library reception desk by 5.00 pm on 14 March. Applicants will be told whether they have a place by 17 March. Questions can be sent to panel@communitytrust.org.

Write the text for a leaflet inviting residents to apply to join the panel, explaining how the process will work and persuading sceptical readers that taking part can contribute to a fair decision.

Your work will be assessed on communication and adaptation to audience and purpose (27 marks), and organisation and technical accuracy (18 marks).
