The borrowed telescope
Leading the evening viewing had been my idea: I was sure that families would be surprised by how much the town sky held. By sunset, an unbroken layer of cloud had erased even the moon, and I pictured everyone arriving for nothing. When the gate opened, more people came in than I had expected; their quiet attention made me suddenly conscious that I was the one expected to know what to do. Then a gap appeared above the roofs. The moon sharpened in the eyepiece, and my embarrassment gave way to concentration as I adjusted the focus for the first family.
In your own words, explain the writer's thoughts and feelings before and at the start of leading the evening viewing.
