Question 93

The orchard inspection

We had come to inspect the orchard, comparing each tree with records from the previous year. Since then, the rows had been renumbered, and the old records no longer matched the current sequence. Dense leaves hid many of the upper branches. Some metal markers at the bases of the trees had sunk beneath the long grass. In direct sunlight, reflections across the tablet screen made recorded values difficult to read. Many trees had also been pruned that week, removing the young shoots we had been told to sample.

Describe the difficulties the inspectors faced as they assessed the orchard. You may support your points with brief quotations.
