Question 68

The reading room at closing time

The reading room had grown quiet after the last school group left. Pale rectangles of light lay across the long tables, and the high windows reflected the darkening garden. Chairs stood at uneven angles where readers had pushed them back. Near the entrance, a trolley waited with a stack of books leaning slightly to one side. I walked between the tables, careful not to disturb the stillness that had settled over the room.

From the passage, select two words or phrases that describe the reading room.
