The unfamiliar alphabet
I had booked the beginner's class because the advertisement promised no previous knowledge was needed. Outside the room, I heard two people already speaking the language fluently. For a moment I wondered whether I had come to the wrong session. The tutor met me at the door and handed me a sheet with my name written in an unfamiliar alphabet. I could not read it, but I wanted to learn how. I chose a seat near the front, where I would be unable to disappear behind someone else's answers.
In your own words, explain the writer's thoughts and feelings before the language lesson starts.
