Question 28

After the doors had closed

By the time I reached the concert hall, the performance had begun, and I expected a frosty look at the door. Instead, the usher greeted me with a tactful nod and steered me along the side aisle, where my late arrival would disturb as few people as possible. Seeing me squint at the seat numbers in the darkness, he angled his torch towards the floor and walked me, unhurried, to the correct row. Within moments, I was seated and the music had reclaimed my attention.

From the passage, select two words or phrases that show how the usher dealt with the writer.
