Question 12

The bowl in the storeroom

The bowl had been placed on a square of grey cloth beneath the strongest lamp. Its rim was brittle, although the rich colour of the glaze made it appear sturdy from across the room. The conservator lifted it gingerly, pausing each time she changed her grip. I had expected an expert's confidence to produce quick, decisive movements; instead, her patience showed me how easily confidence could be mistaken for haste.

From the passage, select two words or phrases that describe the condition of the bowl and the way the conservator handles it.
