The queue is part of lunch
Original opinion extract, written for practice.
I distrust a restaurant which can seat me immediately. Where is everybody? What have they discovered that I have not? Give me a queue curling past the window and I feel my lunch has already acquired significance. I can spend twenty minutes examining other people’s coats and call it anticipation rather than lost time. Naturally I complain if the table is not ready when my turn arrives. That is different: by then the waiting has done its work and I would like to eat. My friend says we could try the quiet place opposite. She may be right about the food, but she has missed the point. I do not want to explain later that we went somewhere simply because it had room for us.
Use your own words to evaluate the writer’s attitude to waiting at a fashionable restaurant. Give details from the extract to justify your answer.
