Question 6

Two sentences should be enough

Original opinion extract, written for practice.

If an idea cannot be explained in two sentences, I begin to suspect the person explaining it. Clear thinking is compact. Confusion breeds paragraphs, qualifications and little fences of perhaps around claims which ought to stand upright by themselves. My colleagues say that some questions contain several parts. Then choose the important part. A reader’s attention is not an inexhaustible public resource, and nobody has a right to build a small library in my inbox. I offer the same discipline to myself: I delete the complications until the central message shines. Occasionally someone says I have removed the very detail which changes the conclusion. That is possible. It is also possible that they are unusually attached to their detail. Either way, they should learn to make the objection shorter.

Use your own words to evaluate the writer’s attitude to very short explanations. Give details from the extract to justify your answer.
