Under the wedding table

Original fiction extract.

Two children scurried beneath the wedding tables while the adults were still finding their names. They had been asked to collect the small paper boxes left on the floor, but had turned the task into a race. Each emerged at a different side with an armful. The organiser counted the boxes and asked them to carry the last two together. That took longer because both wanted to lead. By the time the music began, they were sitting beside one another, comparing which table had contained the most boxes.
