The paper window
Original fiction extract.
The model house needed a window exactly as wide as the little frame. My first cut left a gap on either side, so I used a ruler and made a precise measurement before drawing the next outline. The new piece fitted without being forced. I wanted to hide the rejected piece, but the tutor put it beside the finished window. It showed why checking the width had mattered more than pressing harder with the knife. We labelled the two pieces before the exhibition opened.
