The quiet rehearsal room

Original fiction extract.

The rehearsal room had been noisy before the tutor played our recording. After we heard how often we interrupted the quiet singer, the group became subdued. Nobody argued about the volume of the speakers. We put the chairs back into a circle and waited for her to choose where to begin again. She asked us to join only on the chorus. The next recording contained fewer voices, but for the first time her words could be heard from the start of each verse.
