The olive on the plate
Original fiction extract.
My aunt put a green olive beside my bread and said I could try it if I wished. I was reluctant. I had already decided that I disliked anything with a stone inside it, though she pointed out that I liked cherries. Nobody pushed the plate closer. After watching my cousin eat one, I cut a small piece from mine. I did not enjoy it, but my aunt thanked me for trying. She removed the rest before bringing the pudding, which contained no stones of any kind.
