The commemorative mug
Original non-fiction-style practice text.
The anniversary mug carries the club crest, three dates, a motto, two sponsor logos and the names of everyone on the committee. I can identify no side from which it is possible simply to drink tea. Every turn presents another reason to feel commemorative.
I know why each addition arrived. Somebody wanted the volunteers recognised; somebody else needed to honour a promise to a donor. No individual decision was absurd. Together, they have produced a small ceramic meeting at which nobody has been permitted to finish speaking.
Next year, let us print the names in a programme and leave one clear image on the mug. A souvenir need not contain the entire account of the occasion. It can remind us of a day without asking our morning tea to chair its committee.
Assess the writer’s attitude towards the souvenir mug’s crowded design. Use three details from the text to support your answer.
