The undelivered parcel
Original non-fiction-style practice text.
The shop offers next-day delivery in letters much larger than the sentence explaining where it applies. My address falls outside the chosen district. I learned this after entering the details, choosing a gift message and reaching the payment screen. The parcel had not travelled anywhere, but I felt I had completed a small journey to a locked door.
There may be sensible reasons for the boundary. I do not expect a van to ignore distance because I have forgotten a birthday. I do expect an invitation to explain its limits before asking me to arrange my hopes inside it.
Put the district beside the promise. I might still buy the gift and allow an extra day. A smaller claim which I can use would be more persuasive than a splendid one which disappears when it meets my postcode.
Assess the writer’s attitude towards the shop’s promise of next-day delivery. Use three details from the text to support your answer.
