Mateo's Leather Artisans Case Study

Mateo Ortiz runs a workshop in León, Mexico, producing high-end handcrafted leather bags. Currently, each skilled artisan performs the entire creation process individually: selecting and preparing the leather hides, cutting templates, punch-holing, hand-stitching the panels, and applying the final dye and polish. The workshop currently supplies 65% of the local independent boutique stores. Faced with growing demand from regional markets, Mateo is considering introducing a strict division of labour across the production line to increase productivity.

With reference to the data above and your knowledge of economics, evaluate whether introducing division of labour is the best way for Mateo to increase productivity in his leather workshop.
