Question 10

Premium Chocolate Production

Premium chocolate is a highly valued confectionery product globally. Cacao pods grow on specialized trees in tropical climates and must be carefully selected and harvested by hand by farmers when perfectly ripe. The extracted cacao beans undergo fermentation and sun-drying on farms before being transported to factories. Here, computerized roasting and grinding machinery is used to transform the beans into cocoa solids and butter. Finally, local entrepreneurs manage the production facility, taking financial risks to design diverse product ranges like organic dark chocolate and seaweed-infused milk chocolate for high-end retail markets.

With reference to the text and your knowledge of economics, analyse why all four factors of production are used in the production of premium chocolate.
