Question 5

There has been a significant decline in the proportion of the workforce employed in the primary sector (agriculture, forestry, and fishing) in rapidly developing nations such as Vietnam, India, and Brazil. Agricultural production in these countries has become increasingly mechanized, and large numbers of workers have migrated to urban centres. At the same time, there has been a substantial rise in the number of people employed in the secondary (manufacturing) and tertiary (services) sectors.

With reference to the text above and your knowledge of economics, analyse why there has been this structural shift in employment in rapidly developing nations.
