Group VII properties

How does the chemical formula of Group VII elements reflect their bonding?

A

They are diatomic (e.g. Cl2Cl_2Cl2), because atoms share electrons in pairs to gain a full outer shell.

B

They are triatomic (e.g. Cl3Cl_3Cl3), because atoms share electrons in pairs to gain a full outer shell.

C

They are monatomic (e.g. ClClCl), because atoms transfer electrons singly to gain a full outer shell.

D

They are diatomic (e.g. Cl2Cl_2Cl2), because atoms share electrons individually to gain a full outer shell.
