A charity investigates whether a teamwork briefing increases helpful behaviour among volunteers sorting donated clothes. Two groups of six volunteers complete the same 20-minute sorting task. One group receives the briefing and the other group does not.
Two observers independently watch the same recordings. They count a helpful act whenever a volunteer either hands over a requested item within five seconds or moves a full box to the marked storage area after another volunteer asks.
Both observers know which group received the briefing and have been told that the briefing is expected to increase helpful behaviour.
| Group | Observer 1 tally | Observer 2 tally |
|---|---|---|
| Briefing | 27 | 25 |
| No briefing | 13 | 6 |
The researcher concludes that the briefing increased helpful behaviour.
Evaluate the quality of the observational evidence and whether the researcher’s conclusion is justified. You must refer to the results in your answer.
