A psychologist investigates whether using a checklist affects how accurately participants sort appointment cards into date order. Both groups sort the same set of cards in the same room and are given 10 minutes. Before the timed task, only the checklist group is given a practice round with five cards. The checklist group sorts more cards correctly.
Explain why this result does not show that using the checklist caused the difference in accuracy.
