A psychologist investigates how adults encourage one another during a team puzzle activity. The psychologist arranges the room and activity for the study, gives each team the same instructions and materials, and watches without taking part. Participants are told that the psychologist is observing them.
After the activity, the psychologist interviews each participant. Each interview begins with the topic and the question, “How did people in your team encourage one another?” The psychologist then asks questions based on each participant’s answers; no further questions are planned in advance.
