Question 55

A psychologist wants to find out whether describing a puzzle as difficult changes adults' confidence ratings. To hide the aim, participants are told that the study is about how quickly adults solve puzzles. Each participant attempts the puzzle, gives a confidence rating from 1 to 5 and is then told that they may leave.

Explain when the psychologist should debrief each participant and why the debrief should take place at this point.
