Question 25

Before going to sleep, Rowan looks through photographs from primary school. Rowan then dreams of walking along a school corridor. The floor begins to rock and the corridor suddenly becomes a boat on rough water. Rowan feels alarmed, although there is no danger in the bedroom.

Using Activation Synthesis Theory, describe why each of these features of Rowan's dream may have occurred:

  • the primary school appearing
  • the rocking seeming real
  • the corridor changing into a boat and Rowan feeling alarmed.
