Question 11

Meera's family have chosen the career they expect her to follow. Meera says she is content with this and has never considered a different future. She dreams that a small boat breaks free from a crowded harbour and reaches open water.

Using Freud's concept of wish fulfilment, explain how he would interpret Meera's dream. In your answer, explain why the wish appears in this form and what Freud would expect if it appeared without disguise.
