Dreams as the royal road to the unconscious
Dreams as the royal road to the unconscious
Freud described the mind using two related models. The topographic model divides mental activity into conscious, pre-conscious and unconscious levels. The structural model describes the id, ego and superego. These models should not be matched one-to-one: the id is entirely unconscious, while the ego and superego both have conscious and unconscious parts and can extend across all three levels of awareness.
