A theatre director reads an actor a list of seven stage directions. The actor does not rehearse them, and she is given no new information for the next 30 minutes. At the end, she cannot recall some of the directions. On another occasion, the actor is holding seven stage directions in her head when the director reads out one more. She then cannot recall one of the earlier directions.
Explain which type of forgetting is most likely in each situation. Predict what would happen in the first situation if the actor rehearsed the directions during the 30 minutes, and in the second situation if the director did not read out the extra direction.
