A psychology student investigates the social power associated with work clothing. Sixty adult learners attending psychology evening classes at three colleges agree to complete an anonymous questionnaire. Before giving consent, they are told that the investigation is about whether work clothing affects how likely an instruction is to be followed.
Each learner reads all three of these situations:
For each situation, learners rate the person's right to give the instruction from 1, meaning 'no right', to 5, meaning 'complete right'. They also predict whether the other person would obey. Learners may withdraw their questionnaire before handing it in.
Evaluate the method used in this investigation.
