The direction of social drift

The direction of social drift

Social drift theory is a sociological explanation concerning the social consequences of schizophrenia. It argues that schizophrenia develops, or its symptoms emerge, before downward social drift occurs. The effects of the condition may then cause a person to move into lower-income or more isolated circumstances, although a formal diagnosis may occur during or after this decline. The theory does not explain the psychological or biological cause of schizophrenia itself.
