The fixed sequence

The fixed sequence

Piaget proposed four stages of cognitive development: sensori-motor (birth to about 2 years), pre-operational (about 2–7 years), concrete-operational (about 7–11 years) and formal operational (about 11 years onwards). The stages are invariant, meaning that every child passes through them in the same fixed order and cannot skip a stage.
