Question 13

In 1861, Broca studied a patient who could understand speech but could say only one word. After the patient died, Broca examined his brain and found damage to an area of the left frontal lobe. Today, brain scanning such as fMRI can show which areas of a living person's brain are active while they speak.

Compare post-mortem examinations with brain scanning as ways of studying the brain.
