The electromagnetic spectrum

The electromagnetic spectrum is the continuous range of electromagnetic waves. In order of increasing frequency, the regions are radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays.

Radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light and lower-frequency ultraviolet are non-ionising. The boundary between non-ionising and ionising radiation lies within the ultraviolet region: higher-frequency ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays are ionising.
