A uniform steel rod of length 1.20 m is pivoted at its centre (the 0.60 m mark).

The rod is balanced horizontally when no external forces act on it.

Figure 1 shows two downward forces, F1 F_1\,F1​ and F2F_2F2​, acting on the rod.

Figure 1: A 1.20 m steel rod with a pivot at its center (0.60 m mark). A downward force F1 = 15.0 N acts at the 0.24 m mark. A second downward force F2 = 12.0 N acts at the 1.05 m mark.

Use the principle of moments to show that the rod in Figure 1 is balanced.
