Turning effects and the moment formula

Turning effects and the moment formula

Top view of a door with hinge pivot on the left and equal pushes near the hinge and at the handle, showing the larger perpendicular distance and larger moment at the handle A force can make an object rotate about a pivot. The turning effect is larger when the force acts farther from the pivot, so a door opens more easily when you push near the handle than near the hinge.
