An electric wax melter has two power settings. It operates at 1.2 kW for 3.0 min before its power is reduced to 0.80 kW.
The wax must gain 450 kJ of energy during the complete process. A further 30 kJ of the electrical energy supplied heats the casing and the room. All the electrical energy supplied is accounted for by these energy transfers.
Calculate the time for which the melter must operate at 0.80 kW.
