A pump moves an electrically conducting liquid through a straight channel. In one section of the channel, conventional current flows through the liquid at right angles to the magnetic field of a permanent magnet. With the current and magnetic field in their initial directions, the liquid moves towards the outlet.
Explain why the liquid moves and what happens to its direction of motion when both the current and the magnetic field are reversed.
