Figure 1a shows a pneumatic cylinder containing a trapped sample of air.

The air has an initial pressure of P1 P_1\,P1​ and volume V1V_1V1​.

Figure 1b shows the same cylinder after the piston has been pushed inward.

The pressure is now P2 P_2\,P2​ and the volume is V2V_2V2​.

The temperature of the gas remains constant throughout the compression.

Use data from Figure 1a and Figure 1b to calculate the pressure P2 P_2\,P2​ of the gas in Figure 1b. Use the equation:

P2=P1×V1V2 P_2 = \frac{P_1 \times V_1}{V_2} P2​=V2​P1​×V1​​
