Figure 1 shows a latex party balloon being inflated with air.

A latex party balloon before and after inflation. In the inflated balloon, arrows representing the force exerted by the air molecules point directly outwards at a right angle to the curved surface of the balloon wall.

The air inside the balloon exerts an outward force on the rubber wall of the balloon.
