Students investigated how a distraction affects reaction time using the ruler drop test. One student dropped the ruler from a set height while another student caught it.

The test was repeated five times in silence (silent condition) and five times while the catcher listened to loud music (with music condition).

Figure 1 shows the experimental setup.
