Question 15

A horizontal loading platform is pivoted at one end. The opposite end is 1.8 m from the pivot.

A crate of weight 450 N is placed on the platform at a perpendicular distance d d\,d from the pivot. The platform has a mass of 20 kg, and its weight acts 0.90 m from the pivot.

A restraint applies a downward force of 300 N to the platform at a perpendicular distance of 0.30 m from the pivot. An upward force acts perpendicular to the platform at the opposite end. The maximum upward force is 500 N. The platform is in rotational equilibrium.

The gravitational field strength is 10 N/kg.

Calculate the greatest value of d d\,d for which the platform can be held in rotational equilibrium.
