An electromagnetic clamp is used to hold a steel sheet while it is cut. The clamp has two coils around the same iron core. During normal operation, the magnetic fields from the two coils reinforce each other. A fault reverses the direction of the current in one coil. The size of the current in each coil stays the same.
Explain why the magnetic field produced by the clamp is weaker after the fault.
