An experiment is conducted to investigate how the magnetic force exerted by a solenoid varies with the electrical current flowing through its coil. A ferromagnetic plunger is suspended horizontally inside the solenoid and attached to a spring. When a current is applied, the magnetic force pulls the plunger inside, compressing the spring. The resulting compression is measured.
The graph below shows the results of this investigation.

The current in the solenoid coil is increased from 1.0 A1.0\text{ A}1.0 A to 3.0 A3.0\text{ A}3.0 A. Determine the increase in the compression of the spring.
Calculate the increase in the magnetic force acting on the plunger when the current in the coil increases from 1.0 A1.0\text{ A}1.0 A to 3.0 A3.0\text{ A}3.0 A.
Use the equation: force=spring constant×compression\text{force} = \text{spring constant} \times \text{compression}force=spring constant×compression The spring constant of the spring is 2.8 N/mm2.8\text{ N/mm}2.8 N/mm.
