A motor drives a conveyor carrying boxes. The motor gear interlocks directly with an output gear fixed to a conveyor roller.
Two gear arrangements are available. To start the loaded conveyor, the moment on the output gear must be at least 18 Nm. To keep the boxes stable, the output gear must make no more than 2.0 turns for every 10 turns of the motor gear.
| Gear arrangement | Force acting on the output gear in N | Perpendicular distance from the output axle to the line of action of the force in m | Output gear turns for every 10 motor gear turns |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 150 | 0.140 | 2.5 |
| B | 120 | 0.160 | 2.0 |
Calculate the moment on the output gear for each arrangement.
Explain which gear arrangement should be used.
The motor gear turns clockwise. Explain how the motor gear makes the output gear rotate. Include the direction in which the output gear rotates.
