Turning effects
A force can make an object rotate if it acts at a distance from a pivot. A pivot is the fixed point about which an object turns, such as the hinges of a door or the axle of a pedal.
For a lever with a downward force, the perpendicular distance ddd is the horizontal distance from the pivot to the vertical line of action of the force. Interlocking gears rotate in opposite directions.
