Question 31

A coil is held stationary in a magnetic field that is being increased. A sensitive voltmeter is connected across the coil. An ammeter and a switch, which is open, are connected in series with the coil in a separate circuit.

Explain why the voltmeter shows a reading while the magnetic field is increasing, but the ammeter reads zero. Predict what the ammeter will read if the switch is closed while the magnetic field is still increasing.
