The generator effect
The generator effect is the induction of a potential difference across a conductor when the conductor cuts magnetic field lines, or when the magnetic field around it changes so that its magnetic flux linkage changes. A conductor can therefore have an induced potential difference even when it is stationary, provided its magnetic flux linkage is changing.
