A factor divides a number exactly, and a multiple is a number in its times table. HCF is about common factors, while LCM is about common multiples.

A prime number is greater than 1 and has exactly two factors: 1 and itself. For example, 7 is a factor of 42 because 42÷7=642 \div 7 = 642÷7=6 exactly, while 1 is not prime.
