A group of students is conducting fieldwork to investigate downstream changes in river velocity.
The students planned to use a standard digital impeller flowmeter to measure the water velocity at multiple points across the river channel. However, at their first upstream site, they found that the water was too shallow (less than 5 cm deep) for the impeller propeller to be fully submerged and spin freely.
State one way they could adapt their fieldwork technique to measure the velocity at this site.
